
The Phoenix Hose Co#2 was organized back in 1884 in the borough of Mauch Chunk Pa. The Company operated with an Horse drawn cart to respond to fire calls at the time. As the years would move forward and time changed, the equipment and apparatus would be updated. On January 15th 1909 the Phoenix Hose Co #2 moved into its current location at 173 W broadway. Not Until March 6th 1950 did the borough of Mauch Chunk Pass an ordinance to establish that the Phoenix Hose Company #2 was part of the Mauch Chunk Fire Department, Samuel E. Miller was the Borough Burgress who authorized and signed this into the Borough Ordinace. In 1954 the Borough Of Mauch Chunk and East Mauch Chunk agreed to merge and Take On the name Of Jim Thorpe,
The Phoenix Hose Company#2 is the Oldest Active Fire Station In the Historical Section Of the borough Of Jim Thorpe The Company Is 136 years old and 99 years at it's current location. The Phoenix Hose Company #2 will celebrate 100years of being at 173 W broadway on January 15th 2009.
The Phoenix Hose Company #2 1st due area that it protects is Historic Downtown Broadway. However, the Unit responds through out the Borough of Jim Thorpe on all Rescues and Fire's as well as technical calls as they may arise.
